A special meeting was convened at the Police Headquarters to assess the progress of various high-profile investigations related to crimes, fraud, and other contentious cases in Sri Lanka.

The meeting, led by newly appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Ravi Seneviratne, focused on reviewing ongoing and stalled investigations.

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya, along with senior police officials and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), attended the meeting.

Police spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa stated that the meeting addressed a wide range of issues, including temporarily halted investigations and those that had been unnecessarily delayed.

The Secretary inquired whether any investigations had been obstructed due to political influence and emphasized the need to address the reasons behind any delays.

The meeting also assessed which investigations needed to be restarted and identified cases that may have been impacted by external factors.

The spokesman mentioned that several key investigations were highlighted during the discussion.

The police stated that a report will be prepared to ensure that necessary steps are taken to effectively continue the investigations.
