On the orders of Acting Inspector General of Police Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya, the Criminal Investigation Department has started investigations regarding 07 criminal cases which had been suppressed and left aside due to political pressure.
A special discussion was held at the police headquarters under the chairmanship of the retired Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security, where these hidden crimes were discussed.
Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya as well as several senior officers of the Criminal Investigation Department participated in this special discussion.
The Criminal Investigation Department was instructed to complete the investigations regarding the Easter attack incident during the “Yahapalana” government and arrest the suspects involved regardless of rank.
Meanwhile, investigations have been completed regarding the bond fraud that took place during the period of “Yahapalana” governance and instructions have been given to bring the criminals involved to justice.
Also, instructions have been received to resume the investigations that have been halted regarding the disappearance of Ekneligoda, as well as Lasantha Wickramatunga, which caused great controversy during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.
Orders have been received to close the investigation into the disappearance of 11 Tamil youths who were kidnapped for ransom.
The Criminal Investigation Department has also been instructed to resume the investigations that have been stopped in connection with the MiG aircraft transaction, which is known as a serious financial fraud, and to arrest the suspects.
