The Matale High Court today (08) issued a warrant for the arrest of Cricket Selection Committee Chairman Upul Tharanga at the airport, ordering him to be presented before the court.

The warrant was issued due to his failure to appear in court to provide testimony regarding a match-fixing incident.

Upul Tharanga had previously lodged a complaint with the Special Investigations Unit for the Prevention of Sports Offenses, stating that Indian national Yogi Patel had offered him a match-fixing proposal during the ‘Legend Trophy 2024’ cricket tournament, which concluded at the Pallekele Stadium in March this year.

He was scheduled to be cross-examined today, but it is reported that he has traveled abroad without notifying the court to participate in the US National League cricket tournament.
