Two people have died in St. Petersburg, Florida, after Hurricane Milton struck the state’s western coast overnight, according to St. Petersburg Police Chief Tony Holloway during a Thursday news conference.
“One death was due to a medical issue, and the other involved a person found in a park,” Holloway stated. “We’re awaiting the medical examiner’s report for the official cause of death.”
Authorities are treating both fatalities as storm-related, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times on Thursday. The exact cause of death remains unclear, St. Petersburg Police spokesperson Ken Knight told the Times.
