Popular YouTuber Ashen Senarathna revealed in a social media video that the Election Commission has rejected his independent group’s nomination, citing that the papers were submitted by an unauthorized person. He expressed frustration, explaining that although he was present as the group’s leader, he was asked to wait outside, and another candidate ended up submitting the nomination.
Senarathna plans to take legal action against the decision, arguing that the process was mishandled. The Election Commission, however, clarified that the Election Act specifies who is allowed to submit nominations, and failing to follow this rule leads to disqualification.
