First Lady Jill Biden criticizes Trump, claiming he made women “less safe and less free.”

Published:

During the “Fighting for Reproductive Freedom” bus tour stop in Phoenix, First Lady Jill Biden criticized former President Donald Trump’s stance on abortion rights, accusing him of leaving women “less safe and less free.” She highlighted the current reality for women, with abortion bans in effect in over 20 states, and stressed the importance of the next president’s role in appointing Supreme Court justices.

In her seven-minute speech, Biden discussed the difficulties women now face after the repeal of Roe v. Wade and blamed Trump for appointing justices who overturned the right to abortion. She expressed shock and devastation over Roe’s repeal, noting that today’s women have fewer rights than previous generations. Biden urged the audience to support Proposition 139, an amendment to the Arizona Constitution that would safeguard abortion rights.

She also introduced reproductive rights advocate Kate Cox, who shared her experience of leaving Texas to terminate a life-threatening pregnancy, after being her guest at the State of the Union. The tour, which started in Tucson, will continue with stops in Phoenix, Sedona, and Flagstaff in the coming days.
